Customers like the froth of the small home appliances. They mention that it frothes well, is easy to clean and operate, and gives the most perfect frothing/steamed milk of any device they have tried. It's perfect for frothiing milk for their morning latte, but also great for heating. The temperature settings make it easier to frost the milk depending on the drink, and it was also able to frother non-dairy silk protein almond cashew milk.

First, it seems I bought this after there was some recall for it being a fire hazard some years back. Mine hasn’t caught fire despite a lot of use, so I assume they fixed that issue.
Second, I saw some complaints that it won’t froth non-dairy milks. In my experience that’s because non-dairy milks mostly don’t froth without additives, with the exception of hemp milk which is higher protein and froths very well in this machine. The ingredients of almond milk vary a lot, and I think most of us that are health-conscious enough to make our own stuff at home will tend to select almond milks that are just almonds, whereas coffee shops use ones with other ingredients added for costs and frothing purposes.
Anyway, this thing works great. It comes with two discs, one that’s designed to froth it like crazy like a cappucuino, and a more subdued one that aerates a bit. I end up using the subdued one more often now that I’m back to milk, but nut milks tend to need the crazy disc.
Two things ended up being really useful that I didn’t anticipate:
1) Making matcha lattes is really easy because I don’t have to prep the matcha powder. I just dump 1.5 tsp of matcha into 8 oz liquid and add some honey and it stirs so well the matcha dissolves fine. Similarly, cocoa powder dissolves quickly.
2) Being able to select the temperature, with the bottom temperature being about 100 degrees, is really nice if you’re trying to preserve some of the more delicate compounds in honey. When I’m sick I add a tsp of manuka honey and a tsp of this pollen/propolis/royal jelly/raw honey blend, and just set it to the lowest temperature, and the honey still works. It doesn’t work when I have to heat stuff conventionally at a higher temperature; the compounds start breaking down around 110 to 120F iirc. It should work for powders and such you may want to dissolve into drinks that are similarly heat-sensitive.
It’s also easy to drink immediately, although obviously it gets cold much faster. But that’s actually nice too if you want a honey sweetened iced latte; honey won’t dissolve easily in cold drinks, but you can heat it lightly enough to get it incorporated and ice it.
It also just lets you stir without heating, which has been useful sometimes.
This machine is very easy to clean. I usually just put it in the dishwasher (I have a little covered compartment that I put the disc in), but you can also just put soapy water in it and stir/heat it like you would a drink and then rinse it out.
It’s funny but I actually don’t use this as much for coffee as I do matcha lattes and hot chocolate, mostly because I only have a manual espresso machine so making espresso is a bit of an ordeal. But of course it’s great for coffee drinks as well.
First, the brand matters. I have tried two: Almond Breeze (success!), Silk (no foam!). That doesn't meant there aren't other brands that will foam -- I didn't bother trying since I have been able to get Almond Breeze during the pandemic.
Second, you must "age" the almond milk appropriately. If it is new from the store, with an expiration date 3 months hence, it foams but the foam is looser and not as voluminous. I "age" it in my fridge and have found that if the expiration date is 1 - 2 months away, I get the clouds of microfoam I love! I haven't experimented to get more precise about how "old" the almond milk needs to be. For example, today is July 17 and this morning's almond milk with an expiration date of August 25th foamed beautifully.
Third, the almond milk must be cold.
Fourth, you have to shake the almond milk pretty well in the container before pouring it into the jug.
The pictures I attached are of almond milk, heated and foamed using the cappuccino disk at the bottom of the jug.
I have had this appliance for two years, and I absolutely love it. I foam/heat almond milk for hot cafe au lait every morning, and foam cold almond milk for iced latte every afternoon. I have also used it for cow's milk (skim, cold) and it does a great job -- super easy to use (put jug into base, pour in milk, put on lid, turn dial and press button), easy to clean, and so on -- but for almond milk it truly shines. I get beautiful voluminous microfoam (I like a lot of foam in my coffee drinks!). I have also added flavor sometimes -- a little bit of cinnamon or almond syrup-- and that blends up nicely.
The best things about this appliance are (1) that it works with almond milk; (2) that it makes the microfoam I love, without the dilution from a steam wand (yes I know that dilution would be my fault, but I never mastered the steam wand); and (3) how easy it is to clean. Sour milk that clings in crevices is just...gross. The jug is stainless steel and can go in the dishwasher (but I just give it a good rinsing after using it each time). The tiny foamer disk in the bottom lifts right out -- there's no place for a drop of milk to hide and go sour.
I have a lot of coffee gadgets that are more complicated to use or to clean after use, and have often found myself thinking "It's not worth the bother". There's no hesitation to use this because it's so easy to use, and easy to clean. Truly zero bother. I respect those true coffee connoisseurs who will labor for their daily cup; I am not one of them, and I am very very happy with this purchase.

Extremely easy to clean! I now make "cafe au lait": half coffee and half foam. Really delicious!
Like other Breville products, this item is intelligently designed to be easy to use and clean.

This is super easy to use and clean. You just pick the disc (either latte or cappucino, depending on how much foam you want), put the milk in, and place the carafe on the stand. There's an easy to use dial on the front to select the temperature (or you can do a cold stir), then you just press the start button and wait! It shuts itself off after the temperature is reached. To clean, you take the carafe off the base and either throw it in the dishwasher or clean it manually. This unit uses induction heating, so the carafe is one piece of stainless steel - there's nothing that connects it to the base.
From using this frequently, it produces some of the best quality frothed milk I've ever had. The bubbles are nice and small and the foam is dense. This is a lot easier to use then a steaming wand that comes with most espresso makers. It also makes the best hot chocolate ever - just add the hot chocolate powder/syrup/flakes while the unit is running!
Now, the quality of the foam/froth really does depend on the milk you use. I've found that the higher the fat content, the better quality froth/foam that gets produced. Skim/0%, almond and soy produce the least amount of foam that also dissappears quickly. 2% and higher produces much more dense foam that lasts longer. However, in any case it still does a great job at heating and frothing the milk.
Overall, for the price, quality, ease of use and cleaning, I would highly recommend this!
solid stainless steel construction, both base and cup
utilitarian design
large capacity: I can easily make 2 large lattes at once
although the full unit is larger, the cup itself is smaller and easier to pour than the all in one Nespresso design.
two froth heads
magnetic storage for 2nd head
teflon-free cup
easy to clean
storage space to wrap the power cord in the base
the plug has a finger loop to make it easy to unplug
heat adjustment, and it's accurate!
clear large volume indicaters etched inside the cup
makes perfect, silky foam
cons:
compared to the Nespresso teflon design style, this unit is larger, runs a bit louder and takes a minute longer to heat and froth
I had at least 6 frothers before this one. They all worked well, until each of the motors burned out. They just stopped working. Also, the teflon coating wears out over time so that hot Milk sticks to it, and if you scrub too hard you damage the teflon further. (not a fan of teflon!)
I knew about this Breville for a while, but it always seemed excessive in size and expense. Finally, though, after getting disappointed by so many other brands and designs, I wanted real quality that lasts. So far so good. It's been a week.
This unit is a pleasure to use, makes perfect foam at the perfect temperature, and is simple to clean. It has a clean, solid, functional design; not some chintzy fashion object. I wish I would have bought it years ago! I highly recommend it.
