“We can’t change what’s been done before
But we can choose to close the door
On resentment, anger, and pain
And welcome love, joy, and peace to remain”

Julia Delaney

My dear friend, I want to share something personal with you. You know I have a lot of stories, and this one is a story about pain, forgiveness, and letting go. It’s a story that I believe many of us can relate to – a story about holding onto resentment and the freedom that comes with releasing it.

Like many of us, I have experienced my fair share of pain and hurt. And for a long time, I held onto that pain, like a shield of anger and resentment that I thought would protect me from further hurt. But deep inside I always knew that this shield only weighed me down and made me more vulnerable to pain and suffering.

When I found the courage to let go of that shield, to release the grip of resentment, I truly began to heal. It was a road of self-discovery and growth, one that wasn’t always easy but was always worth it.

Through this journey, I learned some valuable lessons about forgiveness, self-compassion, and the power of living in the present moment. I learned that holding onto the past only robs us of the beauty and joy that can be found in the present. And I learned that forgiveness isn’t about forgetting or condoning hurtful actions but rather about freeing ourselves from the burden of resentment and pain.

I know that letting go of resentment isn’t easy, but I also know that it’s possible. It takes time, effort, and a willingness to be vulnerable and honest with ourselves. But when we do let go of resentment, we free ourselves from the burden of the past and open ourselves up to a brighter future.

I hope that this personal story will speak to you and perhaps even provide some inspiration or guidance as you navigate your own journey. The power of forgiveness and letting go is within your reach. All it takes is the courage to take that first step.

Release and Soar: A Tale of Letting Go

With each passing day the weight grew
Heavy with hurt and resentment, it’s true
Left alone with a young child to raise
While her father vanished into a dark haze

I watched my daughter suffer in pain
Wondering how I could soothe her strain
I gave her love, comfort, and care
But the hurt of abandonment was always there

The injustice of it all was hard to bear
The feelings of helplessness too much to share
I wished he would own up to his part
To understand the pain he had caused
To help heal her heart
To acknowledge the hurt he had brought to her life
And work towards a resolution to make things right

But the years went on and still he never came
Leaving me with a heart full of pain, shame, and blame
I held onto the resentment deep inside
Thinking that somehow it would make things right

But the truth is, it only made things worse
The pain and hurt a never-ending curse
I realized that holding onto blame and anger
Was only causing my own heart to languish and wither

For the burden of resentment too heavy to bear
Was weighing me down, making life seem unfair
It was only when I found the strength to forgive
That I found a new way to live

To release the grip of resentment and let go
To find a new sense of peace, to let it all flow
To embrace the present and the beauty it holds
To let go of the past and the hurt that it molds

For life is too short to hold onto pain and regret
To let the past consume us and our happiness forget
It’s time to find a new way to live and to grow
To find a new sense of freedom and let our hearts glow

We can’t change what’s been done before
But we can choose to close the door
On resentment, anger, and pain
And welcome love, joy, and peace to remain

It takes courage to let go of the past
To release the grip that holds us fast
But the freedom and lightness we’ll gain
Is worth all the effort, and any pain

So let us live in the moment each day
Embrace the blessings that come our way
And know that the past is just a memory
But the present is a gift and the future is full of possibility
