If you're looking for the best tortilla press Amazon has to offer, it's probably cast iron. Why? Well…
For one, cast iron is extremely durable. Whether 50 or 8 tortilla press-downs, cast iron won't chip or wear. And two, a cast iron tortilla press can be seasoned to form a non-stick layer. Well-seasoned cast iron lasts even longer. With good care, this corn / flour tortilla press will live forever – and then some!
-
-
A good taco starts with a good tortilla – which starts with a ball of homemade dough and an 8 inch tortilla press. Our love for tacos led us to create the best tortilla press we could.
So, we knew it needed to be cast iron.
Incredibly sturdy, this cast iron tortilla press is heavy enough to get every corn or flour tortilla pressed to thin, smooth perfection.
And perfection is what we aim for.

What I love most is the way it cooks the tortillas evenly, giving them that authentic homemade taste. Plus, it's easy to clean, which is a huge bonus in my book. The only downside might be its weight; it's pretty hefty, but that also adds to its durability. Overall, if you're into making your own tortillas, this press is a must-have. It elevates taco night to a whole new level of deliciousness!
The Pros:
- Easy to assemble and use
- Pre-seasoned and ready to go
- Quickly makes nice looking tortillas
- 100 pcs parchment paper are very handy
- Great customer service
- Great price
The Cons:
- Doesn't get the tortillas as thin as I would like, but I make up for it with thinner dough.
- Could be a little sturdier, broke after 3 months use. (I may have pressed too hard though)
The bottom line: This product is as advertised and does a great job making tortillas, especially for the price.
I gave this thing a 4 for sturdiness because I am a little suspicious about the strength of the handle. This may turn out to just be nervousness on my part, but the handle seems to bend a little when you're pressing. I'll post an update after I've made a number of batches and let you know what I've discovered.
My Unocasa (why its not Unacasa, I'll never get) came with three screws and wingnuts. All are sized for the handle. The hinge has an unsecured cotter pin through it. It's hollow and inside-threaded to receive a screw to secure it in place. No such screw came with the item. More bizarrely, the packaging says that it comes with an extra "rivet".
I challenge anyone to look at the picture and show me any rivets in use anywhere. There are exactly two fasteners on the device, both are screws held in place with wingnuts (which doesn't match the hinge pins they appear to be using now).
So I've got this tortilla press that is unusable unless I take a trip to the hardware store.
Maybe you'll be one of the lucky people that gets their press delivered in a usable condition. I sure wasn't.
UPDATE 19-June-2021: I contacted customer service by email. It took them three weeks to get back to me. They requested a picture and my address. I sent them the picture and reiterated that all I need is the little screw that secures the cotter pin. They pasted in the specs the hinge screw that takes a wingnut, not the one that goes on the end of the cotter pin. They told me to go root around in a hardware store to find a fastener. It's been a long time since I hated a company so much.
UPDATE 29-June-2021: I got a note saying they'd send me the missing fastener.
