Once a Dream Was Mine…

Once a dream was mine,
I held it firm in my hand,
woven tight with expectations,
a future so grand…
Then, torn from my grasp, the dream did fall,
plummeting like a stone in a well,
echoing loss
like a lonely,
hollow
bell.

The urge to avoid, to run, to hide in a new space,
neglecting grief’s path,
its erratic, winding pace;
building on the sand, where tears freely poured,
ignoring the healing,
the heart’s whispered word…

I’ve learned that grief needs no script, no guide,
no expectation, it bridges every divide,
it’s raw, it’s painful, a storm within the soul,
a tumultuous ride, often out of control.

Yet, in its wake, healing begins,
inner strength stirs a new life within;
a timid rhythm that gently sways,
a new existence in the light of day.
