What makes you happy?

Hey there, have you ever had someone ask you, “What makes you happy?” It’s a question we’re all asked at some point in our lives, and the answers can vary broadly. Some people might say their kids or grandkids make them happy, while others might say their job, hobbies, or material possessions bring them joy. But have you ever stopped to think about whether those things are the source of happiness or merely the keys that unlock the door to the happiness and joy that lies within us?

I was pondering this question the other day when I came across an old tale about the gods playing a game with happiness. They decided to hide it from us mere mortals and had a pretty tough time deciding where to put it. But you know what? The oldest god had the wisest idea of them all, and it’s something that we can all learn from. Want to hear the story? Let me share it with you in this poem I wrote. I hope you enjoy it. 💞

The Hidden Joy

In the realm of the gods, they gathered one day,
To play a game, to have some fun and sway,
One of them spoke with mischief in their eye,
“Let’s take the joy away from people, let it hide!”

They pondered and planned where to keep it safe,
From curious humans with longing on their face,
The highest mountain was suggested first,
But the gods knew the climbers would quench their thirst.

The bottom of the sea was next on the list,
But the gods knew divers would not resist,
A far-off planet was suggested with a smile,
But the gods knew someday they would travel that mile.

The oldest god then spoke with wisdom, true,
“Happiness should be hidden within, it’s overdue,
People will search high and low, outside of themselves,
But they will never find it until they delve”.

And so it was agreed that joy would now reside.
Within each human, and everyone with a secret to imbibe.
should find a way to look inside, a quest to undertake.
To find a sea of joy within their own awakened soul.

And so we search within our hearts,
For the joy that has been there from the start,
Let it warm us up from deep within,
And shine bright, touching all that’s been.

No happiness is in outside situations,
But in the depths of our own creations,
Let it radiate out and warm all things around,
A treasure trove of joy that can always be found.

So let’s look within and not without,
For the happiness that will leave no doubt,
It resides in us, an eternal flame,
And when we find it life will never be the same.

The Hidden Joy

Happiness isn’t something that could be found outside of ourselves – it’s something that resides within us all along. We just need to take the time to look within and unlock that joy that’s been waiting for us.

So, next time someone asks you what makes you happy, remember that it’s not the things or people that make us happy but the feeling we generate within ourselves. Keep looking within, and let that joy and happiness radiate out into the world.

I hope this poem has brought a little bit of light and inspiration to your day. I know that for some people, happiness and joy can seem elusive, especially if you’re going through a tough time like depression.

Sometimes it can take time and effort to find that inner joy, but it’s worth the journey. Remember, it’s okay to take small steps, to seek guidance, or to ask for help.

I truly believe that happiness resides within each of us and that we just need to take the time to look for it. So, no matter how difficult it may seem, I hope that you can find hope and take small steps toward finding the joy and happiness that’s already within you. Thank you for reading, and know that you’re not alone.
