The Weight We Carry: The Illusive Load

Have you ever felt like you’re carrying a load that’s just too heavy to bear? Maybe it’s a weight that you can’t quite put your finger on, like a fog that surrounds you, or a feeling that haunts you no matter where you go. It’s a load that feels all-encompassing, illusive, and inescapable. Or maybe it’s just the weight of the world on your shoulders. Whatever it is, I want you to know that you’re not alone.

I’ve been there too. I’ve felt the weight of the past and the struggle of trying to move forward. But I’ve also learned that it’s possible to let go and find freedom. This weight that we all carry is like a suitcase that’s filled to the brim with memories, doubts, fears, and regrets. We drag it through life’s terrain, feeling weighed down, restrained, and burdened.

But the thing about this load is that it’s often illusive. It’s like a mirage in the desert that seems so real but disappears the closer you get. We think that we need to carry it with us, that it’s a part of who we are, and that we can never let go. But the truth is that it’s just a collection of thoughts, emotions, and experiences that we’ve attached ourselves to.

So, we all can take a closer look at the load that we’re carrying. Is it really as heavy and all-encompassing as it seems? Or is it just a collection of thoughts, emotions, and experiences that you’ve attached yourself to? You have a choice. You can choose to let go, to unpack the suitcase, and to journey on towards new beginnings and a brighter dawn.

The Load

Heavy burden clutched so tight,
a suitcase full of wrongs and rights,
years of memories,
joys and tears,
a lifetime of doubts and fears.

Dragging it through life’s terrain,
feeling weighed down and restrained…
It’s all she knows,
it’s all she’s got,
a suitcase full of a lifetime’s plot.

But as she trudges with sweat on her brow,
she wonders if she should allow
herself to let go,
to set it free,
to unburden herself and just be.

Because the suitcase, though heavy and real,
is a thing that she can choose to feel
or leave behind and journey on,
to new beginnings and a brighter dawn.

It’s not easy to let go,
to release
the things that bind
and never cease,
but it’s worth it to live with ease,
and find peace and lightness,
and happiness…

So she stops
and breathes,
and sets it down,
the heavy suitcase that weighed her down,
and in that moment,
she knows she is free
to live life fully
and just be.

How do you let go of the past and move on?

Tips to Help You Let Go and Move On

So how do you do it? How do you let go of the past and move on? Here are a few tips that have helped me and others let go and move on:

  1. Accept your feelings: It’s okay to feel stuck, burdened, and alone. Acknowledge your feelings, give them space, and allow yourself to feel them fully. You don’t have to pretend to be okay or put on a brave face. Let yourself be vulnerable and honest.
  2. Forgive yourself: We all make mistakes. We all have regrets. But beating ourselves up for the past won’t change it. Instead, forgive yourself for the mistakes you’ve made and the things you wish you could change. Be gentle with yourself and remember that you’re human.
  3. Reframe your story: The past doesn’t define you. You have the power to rewrite your story and create a new narrative. Focus on the lessons you’ve learned, the strengths you’ve gained, and the growth you’ve experienced. See yourself as resilient, capable, and worthy of love and happiness.
  4. Let go of what no longer serves you: This can be a challenging but necessary step towards letting go. Let go of toxic relationships, limiting beliefs, and negative self-talk. Make room for positivity, self-love, and new opportunities.
  5. Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself. Treat yourself like you would treat a dear friend who is going through a tough time. Practice self-care, engage in activities that bring you joy, and be patient with yourself as you navigate this journey.
  6. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness is a great way to stay present and focused on the moment. It can help you let go of the past and prevent you from getting lost in negative thoughts and emotions. Try incorporating mindfulness practices into your daily routine, such as meditation or yoga.
  7. Seek support: It can be helpful to talk to someone about what you’re going through. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or therapist, having someone to listen and support you can make a big difference in your journey towards letting go.
  8. Write it out: Writing can be a therapeutic way to release pent-up emotions and thoughts. Try journaling about your experiences and feelings, or write a letter to someone you need to forgive or let go of.
  9. Practice forgiveness: Forgiving others and yourself can be a powerful way to let go of the past. It doesn’t mean forgetting or excusing what happened, but rather choosing to release the negative emotions and move forward with compassion.
  10. Take action: Sometimes the best way to let go of the past is to take action towards a brighter future. Identify what steps you can take to create positive change in your life and then take action towards those goals.

As the famous quote by Lao Tzu goes, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” So take a deep breath, set down the suitcase, and step forward, let go of what’s holding you back, and embrace the freedom and possibility that life has to offer.

Let go of what no longer serves you

You’re not alone. We’re all in this together, and we all have the capacity for healing and transformation.
